History

Originally constructed in 1966, the site was the former home of a large plastics manufacturer who left Colusa in the early 2000s. Over time, the site become a derelict blight on the edge of town, and in 2020, the City Council determined that something should be done. With the region’s agricultural strength in mind, the City began looking at the emerging Bio-Materials industry.

From there, the City of Colusa started working with regional institutions of higher education as well as agricultural stakeholders to understand the needs, capacity, and possibility to support this future industry.

Facility

This City-owned industrial facility is nearly 200,000 square feet and sits on a 38-acre industrial parcel. Fed by over 20,000 Kva of power split between two transformers, the facility has a wet lab, multi-story mezzanine structure, and available silos for wet or dry storage. The wet lab is adjacent to the offices and dedicated ‘Commercialization Zone’ outfitted with early stage, low-volume manufacturing equipment available for rental. The remaining square footage is filled with downstream bio-materials value chain tenants processing raw materials and other products.
